Stacked House

  • Location

    Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

  • Area

    1,200 sqm

  • Scope

    Architecture and Landscape

  • Year

    2016

  • Status

    Concept

The Stacked blocks concept is inspired by the language of historic Islamic Medinas, which evolved into tightly woven cubic structures arranged around pockets of private space that protected inhabitants from the sun. The house adopts the broken language as a series of horizontal living spaces stacked one above the other. This divides the overall mass of the building, creating a striking and dynamic appearance from the garden. Several different types of terraces and outdoor spaces are created – from a outdoor sunken seating area placed below a cantilevered volume, to both shaded outdoor terraces and completely open terraces on the first floor.
